MOTOGIRO DI CALIFORNIA RULES

1.1)    DEFINITION: The MotoGiro di California is a multi-day motorcycle tour, mostly made up of California back roads where neither speed or schedule are determining factors. It is solely for the enjoyment of MotoGiro-Bike enthusiasts to ride their MotoGiro motorcycles and get together to socialize. It is conducted on daily routes over public roads open to regular traffic and all local highway codes must be observed.

1.2)    PARTICIPANTS: The number of participants at the MotoGiro di California is only limited to the capacity of the motel chosen as the base of operations. Participants are invited to sign up on a Google Docs form and event information is emailed to them over time at their home email addresses. Entries may be accepted or declined on a case by case basis at the discretion of the event organizer. All participants must sign a Release Form with Emergency Contact information upon arriving at the event site.

1.3)  MOTORCYCLES: The following machines are eligible to submit to enter the MotoGiro di California:


A)      Italian motorcycles manufactured in 1957 or before and having a maximum engine displacement no more than 175cc, plus allowable overbore. (consult AHRMA rules regarding maximum allowable overbore)

B)      Italian motorcycles manufactured subsequent to 1957 which are of “like design” to machines manufactured in 1957 or earlier, i.e. major mechanical components and styling are fundamentally similar to earlier machines and having a maximum engine displacement no more than 175cc.

C)      “Provisional Eligibility” may be granted to certain Italian motorcycles which did not come into production until 1958 or later, but (at the event organizer’s discretion) have a mechanical and styling character which is comparable to 1957 and older machines and having a maximum engine displacement no more than 175cc.

D)      Non-Italian motorcycles manufactured in 1957 or earlier and having a maximum engine displacement no more than 175cc may petition for entry and at the event organizer’s discretion may be allowed to participate.


1.4)    EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

A)      Current vehicle registration and proof of liability insurance, as required by California state law, must be carried at all times.

B)      Per the California Vehicle Code at least one rear view mirror must be affixed to the motorcycle in a position that is easily viewable from the rider’s position and on the left hand side of the motorcycle if only one mirror is used.

 

C)     Per the California Vehicle Code a motorcycle crash helmet must be worn by each participant.


1.4.1)  NOT required, but STRONGLY recommended:

A)      A RollChart Holder mounted to the handlebars or other location for easy rider visibility (see RollCharts page).

 

B)      Fresh tires which have been manufactured within the last 5 years.

C)      Full coverage crash helmet meeting Snell M2015 specification or better.

D)      Full coverage abrasive resistant clothing, leather or textile.

E)      Protective gloves and additional padding or armor, including full coverage back protector.
 

 

1.5)    ROUTE


A)      The daily route will be a minimum of 125 miles with 150 to 170 miles being the most common daily maximum mileage.

B)      Route information in the form of daily RollCharts will be handed out in person at the event sign in.


C)      Riders must remain on the mapped route. A rider who leaves the route may not be able to be assisted by the sweep and chase vehicles and crew.

 

 

1.6)    DISQUALIFICATION:   Riders found engaged in illegal practices, will be disqualified from the event. 

  The following shall be considered to be illegal practices:


A)      Disregard of highway codes and/or speed limit laws. Arrest or citation by law enforcement officers for equipment or traffic violations is grounds for dismissal from the event.


B)      Demonstration of unsafe riding as may be observed by event staff or reported by fellow riders.
