MOTOGIRO DI CALIFORNIA RULES

1. DEFINITION:

 

The MotoGiro di California (MGdC) is a multi-day motorcycle riding experience which is solely intended for Riders of MotoGiro-Motorcycles

 

The MGdC is made up mostly of California public back roads where neither speed nor schedule are determining factors. The MGdC allows Riders to be able to enjoy riding their MotoGiro motorcycles and share the experience of riding with other like motorcycles and Riders

 

Riders are expected to arrive with bikes which are approved or abide by Rule 1.3 and are ready for riding. This includes any backup/secondary bikes. The MGdC is conducted over public roads on daily routes open to regular traffic and all local highway codes must be observed

 

The MotoGiro di California IS NOT a race or speed contest.

The MotoGiro di California IS NOT a motorcycle show or spectator event

 

1.1 ENTRY:

 

The number of Riders at the MotoGiro di California is primarily limited by the capacity of the motel chosen as the base of operations

 

When announced, Interested Riders are invited to submit their Interested Rider Information via the MGdC website. If accepted, location and logistical information will be emailed to them. Interested Riders may be accepted or declined on a case by case basis

 

NOTE: If you know someone who may be an Interested Rider, have them only make contact through the MGdC link; https://www.motogirodicalifornia.com/contact. They can then be informed how to join the MGdC email group and how to submit their Interested Rider Information. Do not inform them of the location or the lodging. They need to complete the Interested Rider process like everyone else

 

1.2 PARTICIPATION:

 

A Rider is someone who has received an MotoGiro di California acceptance email

 

Riders are expected to show up with a well prepared motorcycle, as approved or abides by Rule 1.3 and is ready to ride. This includes any backup/secondary bikes

 

The MGdC is solely about the riding experience with the Rider as an active participant. The MGdC is not an event for any non-riders, e.g., spouses, friends, etc

 

The MGdC includes some Support Staff. The Support Staff provides breakdown, hospitality and other support efforts required for the function of the MGdC

 

Riders and Support Staff must sign a Release Form with Emergency Contact information upon arriving at the site

 

Riders and Support Staff are expected to observe all local highway codes including carrying current registration and insurance as required by California law

 

Riders and Support Staff must not share any location, itinerary or other information to any non-participants, particularly via inner-web e-mail or social media groups, including the motogirodicalifornia@groups.io group. There are definite security and logistical advantages in not disseminating this info

 

Any Rider who is unable to attend must contact the organizers to let them know of their cancellation. This includes Riders whose bikes are not ready in time for the event. Only show up if you are ready to ride

 

1.3 MOTORCYCLE (ELIGIBILITY & PRIORITY):

To participate in the MotoGiro di California, machines are grouped into the following categories. Entries are accepted based on the order of priority listed below:

Primary Eligibility (The 175cc Standard)

All motorcycles in categories A, B, C, D and E may only have a maximum engine displacement of 175cc (plus allowable overbore per AHRMA rules)

A) Priority 1: Pre-1957 Italian Classics

  • Italian motorcycles manufactured in 1957 or earlier.

  • Must adhere to the 175cc displacement limit.

 

B) Priority 2: "Like Design" Italian Motorcycles

  • Italian motorcycles manufactured after 1957.

  • Must be of "like design" to pre-1957 models (major mechanical components and styling must be fundamentally similar).

 

C) Priority 3: Provisional Italian Eligibility

  • Italian motorcycles that entered production in 1958 or later.

  • Requirement: Must have a mechanical and styling character comparable to older machines.

  • Note: Granted at the event organizer’s discretion.

 

D) Priority 4: Legacy Participants

  • Any 175cc motorcycle that has been previously accepted and ridden in a past MotoGiro di California.

 

E) Priority 5: Non-Italian Motorcycles

  • Non-Italian machines (max 175cc).

  • Requirement: Must petition for entry.

  • Note: Granted at the event organizer’s discretion.

 

1.4 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

 

A) Per the California Vehicle Code, current vehicle registration and proof of liability insurance must be carried by each participant at all times.

 

B) Per the California Vehicle Code at least one rear view mirror must be affixed to the motorcycle in a position that is easily viewable from the rider’s position and on the left hand side of the motorcycle if only one mirror is used.

 

C) Per the California Vehicle Code a motorcycle crash helmet must be worn by each participant

 

1.4.1 RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT:

 

A) A RollChart Holder mounted to the handlebars or other location for easy rider visibility (see RollCharts page: https://www.motogirodicalifornia.com/roll-charts).

 

B) Fresh tires which have been manufactured within the last 5 years.

 

C) Full coverage crash helmet meeting Snell M2015 specification or better.

 

D) Full coverage abrasive resistant clothing, leather or textile.

 

E) Protective gloves and additional padding or armor, including full coverage back protector

 

1.5 ROUTE:

 

A) The daily route will be a minimum of 125 miles with 150 to 170 miles being the more common daily maximum mileage.

 

B) Route information in the form of a daily RollChart will be handed out in person to each participant after signing in at the site.

 

C) Participants must remain on the mapped route. A rider who leaves the route may not be able to be assisted by the sweep and chase vehicles and crew

 

1.6 BREAKDOWNS:

 

A) A list of breakdown vehicle drivers and their phone numbers will be made available to each participant once they have signed the release form.

 

B) In the event of a breakdown a participant must park their motorcycle where it is visible from the street and remain with their motorcycle

 

1.7 DISQUALIFICATION:

 

Participants found engaged in any of the following disrespectful or illegal practices, WILL BE DISQUALIFIED from the current and/or future MotoGiro di California events:

 

A) Disregarding highway codes and/or speed limit laws. Arrest or citation by law enforcement officers for equipment or traffic violations is grounds for dismissal from the event.

 

B) Demonstration of unsafe riding as may be observed by the general public, the event staff or reported by fellow participants.
