What is the MotoGiro di California?

The Giro di California is a retrospective tribute to the Giro d’Italia Motociclistico (a.k.a. Motogiro), Italy’s premier long distance motorcycle road race of the 1950’s.

The Giro di California celebrates the machines and riders from the golden era of the Motogiro, 1953-57. During this period the Motogiro was organized and promoted by the Italian sports newspaper Stadio. During the Stadio years over 50 Italian motorcycle manufacturers fielded “protagonisti” in the Motogiro.

The Giro di California is a touring and regularity event for 1957 and older Italian motorcycles up to 175cc.

Machine eligibility is explained in detail in the Rule Book, but in short the following machines are eligible to participate in Giro di California:

1) Pre-1958 motorcycles up to 175cc engine displacement.

2) Post-1957 machines with clear “like design” lineage to motorcycles from category #1 above and 175cc max.

3) Certain Italian motorcycles that began production within a few years of 1957 that the Eligibility Committee deems to be “in the spirit of the era” may be considered for participation on a case-by-case basis.

Trophies will be awarded for 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place Overall, as well as for the top three finishers in each of the following sub-divisions:

Up to 75cc • Up to 100cc • Up to 125cc • Up to 175cc

See you on the road!
